WTF - Chicago Student Beaten to Death

Chicago, typically hailed as the Windy City, became Whack City when a throng of blood thirsty thugs beat a high school honors student to death last week. Thanks to cell phone video which captured the attack, four teenagers who knocked Derrion Albert unconscious with wooden planks and kicked him mercilessly now call a jail cell home. Losing another black youth to black heathens who devalue life confirms the fibers of self-respect in our community are fraying fast. Naturally, no respect for self breeds an absence of respect for others.

Fed up with the same brand of inner city violence that took the lives of 30 Chicago-area students in 2008, residents who aren’t tossing blame to parental neglect are looking to law enforcement to arrest the community’s ills. Until change comes to inner cities across America, land of limited opportunity and poverty gone wild, the expectation of a single-pronged solution seems extreme. Thank God my generation had a village.

  1. Think the possibility of the proposed Summer Olympics might help clean up the streets of Chicago?

  2. Unfortunately, a dog and pony extravaganza like the Summer Olympics will not sweep the Chicago streets of rampant violence. Frankly, it would be more advantageous for the city's elected officials and citizenry to address the bloodshed before attempting to snag a worldly stage.

  3. Good article. Bill Cosby wasn't wrong. Sadly, Black Americans are also facing a divide within the popularly espoused American divide between those who have and those who have no soul.
